Fairway and AWI Help a Kansas City Veteran

A Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation branch in the Kansas City, Missouri area partnered with the American Warrior Initiative (AWI) to honor a local U.S. veterans organization. Along with a donation, the Fairway branch held a residential housing “boot camp” to train real estate professionals and mortgage planners on how to best handle the home-purchase needs of active duty military members and veterans.

Fairway and AWI honored a local U.S. Army veteran, Tim McIntosh, with a service dog from Warriors’ Best Friend, a national foundation for disabled veterans. Tim served in the army for nearly 20 years as a tank commander and was a fire chief for the army reserves. During his career, Tim was deployed to Iraq, Romania and Bulgaria.

Co-founded by Louise Thaxton and Sean Parnell, the American Warrior Initiative is a non-profit organization sponsored by Fairway Independent Mortgage. AWI seeks to ease U.S. veterans’ transition from military to civilian life.

Tim is so thankful for AWI and the Fairway team, and he looks forward to being able to focus on his family instead of his condition. Not only will the service dog help with his physical needs; he is thrilled to finally have a running buddy. Four thousand dollars raised through T-shirt sales at the Kansas City AWI event were used to help pay for Tim’s service dog.

Loan officer Kristi Schumacher was delighted to be a part of this wonderful occasion. She said:

“We were honored to host the AWI team in Kansas City. We had a packed house of 250-plus real estate professionals in attendance, and the day ended with a well-deserved standing ovation. Louise Thaxton’s passion and enthusiasm for our veteran community are inspiring and contagious. Every person in attendance left with a heart full of compassion for our veterans and a better understanding of the challenges they face and how best to help. We also had the distinct pleasure of hearing a small piece of Sean Parnell’s story. His words are something I’ll never forget. We are beyond grateful to have the opportunity to help fund a service dog for a local Kansas City veteran. Thank you, AWI, for all you do!”

I am proud to work for a company that does so much to honor those who sacrifice for our country. If I can help answer any questions about VA loans or any other home loan options, please give me a call.
